Earlier this year car maker General Motor, who own brands like Pontiac and Chevrolet, filed for bankruptcy. However, they have now sorted themselves out, and from July, they have stopped receiving bankruptcy protection from the government.

Now that they have moved on, they are trying some new methods for being in more car sales. They are currently looking into 2 new methods to selling their cars. The first method they have already tried but pulled out of last year, and that’s car leasing. They have put together plans to once again return to the contract hire market sometime this year. General Motors, being the manufacturer, may be able to give some extremely cheap van leasing offers as they can sell straight from the manufacturer lines, undercutting many other companies.

The other method they are trying to the more news worthy one, they are going to be making deals with eBay, the online auction site. As of August 11th, within the California area, General Motors started listing brand new Buick, Chevrolet, GMC and Pontic cars onto the online auction site.

The plan is to run the system on a trial basis until September, however, it’s already proved popular with over 225 out of 250 of their Californian dealers signing up. Customers using the system will be allowed to either pay the listed price for the car, or they are allowed to haggle for a new price. Once the customer buys the car, they then have to travel to their closest registered dealer to pick up their new vehicle.

If General Motors and eBay find the system to be profitable, they might introduce it to every state in America. Also if other companies see the methods being successful, I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw other manufacturers offering car leases such as a Honda lease.

The giant of the motoring industry, General Motors, who own brands like Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac, Pontiac and Buick, have reveasleda line-up of new car £. Less than a month ago, General Motors recovered from 40 days of bankruptcy where the government pumped over $50 billion into the company, now making it 60% owned by the taxpayers.

Now that they have got out of danger from bankruptcy, the car manufacturer is looking for new ways to help increase business. Within the past week, they have released details about the new ways they will be selling their cars. A trial method they are running from August 11th is selling the new cars on eBay, the online auction site.

Last Tuesday, August 11th, General Motors invited a group of hand chosen consumers to Detroit for a special event. The event was used to show off the new range of cars that General Motors will be releasing in the next year. After they bounced back from bankruptcy, General Motors have been looking at their current car models, and they want change.

Currently most of their cars are the size of tanks and eat fuel, these used to be very popular, however, due to climate change, they are becoming less popular as drivers become more eco-friendly. To try and full in some younger clients to their showrooms, General Motors have designed a set of smaller and more fuel efficient cars for a number of their car brands.

The Chevrolet Volt was just one of the announced cars which is expected to be a big hit. This car is scheduled for release sometime in 2010 and it’s become popular due to the number of miles per gallon it can do. It’s been announced that the new Volt model can do around 230 miles per gallon of city driving, that should cut running costs massively compared to a normal Chevrolet.

The new model Cadillac was the other big annoucnement at the event. The new Cadillac is a new small sports sedan and it will have either rear wheel or four wheel drive. The new Cadillac was not given an expected release date, but it is expected to be smaller than their popular Cadillac CTS.

At the event General Motors announce a huge number of changes that will be coming to all their brands within the next few years. Some plans announced included making 3 new models for Buick, doubling their current model range. We’ll have to keep one eye open to see what cars are released first and what sort of effect they have on General Motors’ market share. Hopefully we’ll get some of these new models coming to the UK contract hire market. At this stage, the only big American car you can lease in the UK is a Chrysler lease. Alternatively, another option to you would be to opt for cheap van leasing because they’re most likely the same size as a Chevrolet
